Alicia Augello Cook, known professionally as Alicia Keys, is an American R&B singer-songwriter, pianist, musician, record producer, and actress. She was born on January 25, 1981 in Manhattan, New York. She is a daughter to Terria Joseph, white, and Craig Cook, black. She was married to Swizz Beatz in the year 2010 and they have a child by the name Egypt Daoud Dean. She was raised up in the Hell’s Kitchen section of New York City. She began playing piano when she was seven and composed songs with the help of her mother.

Keys graduated as a valedictorian from the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan, briefly attended Columbia University on a scholarship before getting into a fulltime musical career. Her debut was in 2002 when she released her album songs of a minor that was all about her childhood music aspirations. In 2003, she released her 2nd album known as the diary of Alicia Keys that won several awards. Her hit singles include:
